“Cars” Birthday Cake

This past March, my son, Aidan turned four. I love birthdays. I love the planning, and making the day special. One of my favorite parts of the planning is figuring out what kind of birthday cake I am going to make for the birthday kid. But, I was 9 months pregnant with our fourth child, and knew I could actually deliver any day so I better be creative, and plan to stay off my feet as much as possible!

Aidan’s only request had been a “Cars” birthday cake. And as you can see from the pictures above, that is just what he got. I ordered a cake from Costco and had them decorate it solid green for grass. Then I took a tooth pick and drew lines for the edge of a road. I took apart some Oreo (like) cookies, scooped off the cream and broke in half. Then I pressed those cookies in a line to form a border for the road, making it look like tires. Then I took some more of those cream-less cookies and pounded them out to make “blacktop” for the cars to drive on. I then wrote on the cake with some store bought frosting and there you have it, a “Cars” birthday cake, on a budget and this pregnant mama didn’t have to stand for too long!

  3. I’m going to be copying this idea. It’s just brilliant! I’ll also be doing white jello pudding with an oreo road and cars on that too.
